Beau's Organic Beer

MFWB recently had the opportunity to visit Beau's in Vankleek Hill, ON (about 60 miles or 100 km east of Ottawa). This is definitely a pilgrimage worth making for anyone in the vicinity (and by that I mean within 12 hours of the brewery!). All natural, no preservatives, FANTASTIC taste! The only problem is the crew can't keep up with demand. This newbie (started in 2004 if MFWB's hazy memory is correct) only sells their nectar in two sizes, 750ml and Growler. Growler to MFWB is the gallon jug variety, but may have a more "local" name to you. Either way, this isn't your old man's 30 pack kind of establishment, nor do they want to be.

The goal of the visit was to procure as much of the brew as possible for our journey back to the States. However, much to our dismay, only the 750ml bottles were available for sale, along with some sweet merch (t-shirts, trucker caps, some sweet glasses with the great Beau's logo on the face and etched into the base of the glass). Alas, 8 750ml (don't tell the Border Patrol) were all we could grab. That is plenty because Beau's has no preservatives and thus must be drunk within a month of purchase. Talk about return business requirements.

Hockey and beer are two things synonymous with Canada from what MFWB has seen and no one does it better than Beaus's (and that's not just the orginal 5 pitcher sample talking). Also, the Beau's crew is wise enough to be Bruins fans as well (shhh...don't tell the Ontarians or Canadien fans that encircle the brewery).

May your Lug Tread's never go flat!!!!

Welcome

Beer sweet beer. If you are someone who sits down at a restaurant and looks at the drinks section first and foremost, keep reading and enjoy. If you go to the beer section and look for a particular brew you have never sampled before, you are definitely a friend of Make Friends With Beer (forever to be referred to as MFWB from here on out).

This will not be a celebration of the normal brews. Bud, Coors, Miller all spend plenty of ad dollars to peddle their swill on the masses. Don't get MFWB wrong, plenty of those bevvies have been consumed in a lifetime (OK, maybe not Coors, unless you count all the WATER consumed in my life). However, there is so much more to life than what the behemoths can offer. First of all taste!

So, I hope you enjoy the data. My taste buds may not always be discerning or accurate (especially after a few), but I will always strive to sample as many varieties as possible (I know, real tough, eh?) and give you my honest opinion of the experience.

Join the MFWB movement should it strike your fancy.
